「Mando is originally an automotive parts specialist company. However, in addition to automotive parts, new business development is required according to CASE trends. We decided to challenge new fields, heterogeneous devices, new services and solutions beyond existing main businesses, and since this was difficult with existing business divisions, we established a new dedicated organization called 'WG Campus (Ungok Campus)'. Since October 2019, we have been conducting various analysis work here to create services that target heterogeneous devices such as electric vehicles, electric bicycles, and robots, and utilize the data generated from them.」 In December 2021, Mando quickly moved to adapt to the autonomous driving era by launching a separate entity, HL Klemove, which took over Mando's business and is accelerating it.

Mando plans to accelerate the development of cloud-based solutions and discover new business opportunities in the mobility solutions market such as hydrogen vehicle drivers and autonomous patrol robots.

 


 

Amazon Web Services

 

Mando leveraged the deep and broad cloud services provided by AWS, including Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), Analytics, and Computing services, to rapidly build and commercialize the Mobility Service Platform (Mando Mobility Service Platform, hereinafter MMSP), which serves as the foundation for promoting various new mobility businesses.
The new MMSP is expected to serve as a catalyst to promote open innovation with external parties beyond Mando.

Mando collects and analyzes data from various devices to provide new services based on MMSP. For example, Mando launched 「H2Care」, an app that provides customized information related to hydrogen charging station usage such as charging station locations, operating hours, waiting times, congestion levels, and prices to hydrogen vehicle drivers in the first half of this year using MMSP. In particular, recently, to automatically identify the number of vehicles waiting at charging stations, Mando adopted Amazon Rekognition, a fully managed service from AWS, and analyzes images and videos using deep learning technology to identify and inform the number of vehicles waiting at charging stations.

Additionally, Mando is implementing functions to remotely control and monitor various mobility devices, including autonomous patrol robots that recently began test operations at Siheung Baegot Life Park, utilizing the MMSP infrastructure. This robot is based on AWS RoboMaker, a cloud robotics service that makes it easy to build, deploy, and manage smart robots, and monitors the surrounding environment to prevent safety accidents. Mando plans to adopt additional AWS services including AWS IoT Core, a managed cloud service that easily and securely connects devices and clouds, AWS IoT Greengrass, which enables local computing, messaging, management, synchronization, and ML inference functions to run safely on connected devices, and Amazon SageMaker, a service that supports developers and data scientists in quickly building, training, and deploying ML models.

MMSP, an IoT solution jointly developed by Mando and MegazoneCloud, supports various mobility devices such as next-generation mobility propulsion systems and autonomous robots, and plans to broadly expand the implementation of battery and hydrogen electric vehicle-related services on a cloud-based platform.

Son Byung-guk, Team Leader of the WG Campus Service Platform Team, stated that based on MMSP built on AWS, 「We will develop it into a service that can enhance Mando's status and value as a future-leading mobility company by establishing itself as a representative brand of eco-friendly mobility services through discovering differentiated services related to hydrogen charging station usage and various partnership services.」
